    How data written to S3? Synchronously or asynchronously?

      Good question. It's synchronous in order to avoid any risk of data loss due to an EC2 issue.
      However, it may be worth noting that reads are not served from s3, they are served from the vdrive fleet.

      @@purestorage Therefore write operations would depend on S3 latency, plus latency of connectivity to S3. Would it then make sense to write directly to S3?

      @@teaearlgrayh0t You could write to s3 directly if you want your data to be accessible via s3 protocol rather than block storage protocol and if you don't care about the compression, deduplication, encryption, snapshots, replication, thin-provosioning etc. that purity software provides. We are also faster than straight to s3 latency for read cases and some write cases as well given the software work we do on the front end.
